Tamoxifen Citrate

If you’re a performance enhancer you’re more than likely familiar with Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator’s (SERM’s) at least to a degree and most are familiar with the most famous one of all, Tamoxifen Citrate. For many athletes Tamoxifen Citrate is used while on cycle as a means to prevent Gynecomastia due to the aromatizing effect many anabolic steroids can have and more commonly as a post cycle therapy (PCT) medication in order to stimulate natural testosterone production. For most men these are the purposes of use, however, many women, especially those who are part of the physique competing world regularly supplement with Tamoxifen Citrate as well. It’s no secret, many anabolic steroids can be very damaging to women due to their virilization effects and as Tamoxifen Citrate is not an anabolic steroid yet can provide an anabolic effect along with estrogenic binding qualities it proves to be very useful for the female athlete.

Estrogen, like testosterone is an essential hormone to proper health in both men and women, although women do in-fact produce far more than men on an average basis. This can be somewhat problematic for many female athletes as excess estrogen can not only soften a physique but make fat-loss all the more difficult. Due to this fact many female athletes supplement with Tamoxifen Citrate in order to combat estrogen so that their goals may be met. No, supplemental use will not replace diet and training but a low dose of Tamoxifen Citrate has been proven time and again to aid in providing many women with the physique they desire.

Let’s clear a few things up to give a better understanding; no, Tamoxifen Citrate will not reduce the amount of estrogen in the body; unlike an aromatase inhibitor it lacks this effect. However, it will keep estrogen from binding to the receptors, to a degree but it will not inhibit production or conversion. In order for an athlete to actively reduce the total amount of estrogen in the body a strong aromatase inhibitor such as Femera would need to be applied and for the female athlete who desires to maintain femininity this is not advisable. When combating issues of estrogen in the female athlete the idea is to block some of its action so as to allow a leaner and harder physique to be obtained and Tamoxifen Citrate actively fills this role.

The majority of female physique competitors who supplement with Tamoxifen Citrate will do so during the actual competition preparation and normally towards the tail-end of the diet. By binding estrogen from actively binding to the receptors the athlete will find they are often able to lose that last little bit of fat that often hangs on for dear life giving the athlete a much leaner and harder physique than they would otherwise have without Tamoxifen Citrate being present.

For the average female competitor 4-6 weeks of therapy will generally be all that is needed. A dosing of 10mg of Tamoxifen Citrate per day during this time frame will generally prove to be highly effective. For many women this is often the final missing link in obtaining the physique they have so long desired and for many of these physique competitors, be it bodybuilding, figure, fitness and even bikini it can often be the difference between first place and a placing much further down the line.
