Athletes and Steroids

Be you an athlete or someone who has never taken part in any sport, many understand as the hotdog is to the bun the same can be said of athletes and steroids; they go hand-in-hand. As many understand the relationship between athletes and steroids runs deep even more are still unaware in an almost lobotomized state of acceptance and denial. If you didn’t know any better and most don’t, you’d think the relationship of athletes and steroids was a minor one made up of cheaters, bodybuilders and of course the Jersey Shore but you’d be dead wrong.

We know that athletes and steroids share a very special and closely tied relationship as far back as the 1950’s and heavily and in increasing fashion since the 1970’s. We also know this special relationship of athletes and steroids stretches past the advent of synthetic anabolic steroid use; professional athletes, most notable in baseball were using testosterone extract from live animal testicles as early as the 1890’s; even Babe Ruth himself took part in this practice.

Let’s be honest, is the relationship between athletes and steroids really that hard to believe, especially in professional sports? Our professional athletes are asked to play at an enormous level of athletic ability that has a demand on the body that would leave most crying in a pool of their own blood. Further, we reward our athletes based on their performance; did you understand that, really, do you understand? The better you perform, the higher your reward; conversely, the weaker you perform the less you are rewarded and often this lesser reward equates to no reward at all. Because of this reason athletes and steroids, this relationship will always exist; it has been born out of necessity and we as a society have created the footing and we hold the gate key.

If as a society we wished to truly see the athletes and steroids relationship abolished there’s an easy solution and quite frankly it’s the only solution. Stop rewarding success; as is now done in many youth sports, start rewarding based on participation, if participation is all that’s required then goodbye anabolic steroids; but come on, who actually wants that? It is the very nature of man to strive for perfection, to strive for success and he expects to be rewarded for it; further and more importantly, the relationship between athletes and steroids is largely misunderstood and this is what we want to discuss next.

If an athlete uses anabolic steroids, especially regarding the professional arena it will not shoot him past mediocrity to superstardom. Sorry, anabolic steroids do not work this way; if anything the best way to view anabolic steroids is as “supplemental” to what you’re already doing. Anabolic steroid use does not mean you can work less, train with less intensity and expect to see better than normal results. The idea of anabolic steroid use is simple; to do what you’re already doing with more efficiency. When athletes use anabolic steroids they are able to heal faster, recover faster and more efficiently and effectively; they are able to play and train harder, otherwise they are beaten to a pulp and washed up before they even begin.

In short, the relationship between athletes and steroids is largely misunderstood because of a lack of education. Most haven’t a clue as to how anabolic steroids truly work; they see and hear what is said on the nightly news, they get ideas from movies and they hear congress crying like little girls; they hear of death and roid rage and other despicable characteristics but they never hear the truth. Take the challenge, research anabolic steroids for yourself but do so with an open mind; or better yet do it with whatever mind you want but study unbiased material. Look to legitimate medical journals; search out reports regarding the steroid ban and government health agencies at the time of the ban. The truth of the matter, you will have to do your own homework if you want the absolute truth because this is the only way you’re ever going to get it.
